Greenwood Village - Denver Nuggets forward DerMarr Johnson was arrested early Saturday after he and two women were involved in a disturbance outside the Purple Martini nightclub on East Belleview Avenue.
"He apparently would not cooperate," said Greenwood Village police Lt. Randy Corbitt.
The two women, who were charged with disturbing the peace, were identified by police as Emerald Thomas, 25, and Nephatearia Jenkins, 26. Police would not say what caused the fight.
Johnson's attorney, Dan Recht, released this statement: "DerMarr was breaking up a fight between two women. There was a great deal of confusion and the police mistakenly believe he was interfering with them, however we are confident when all the facts come out it will be clear that DerMarr is innocent and did nothing wrong."
The three were taken to the police department before being released later Saturday, Corbitt said. They are to appear in Greenwood Village Municipal Court at a date to be determined.
Johnson, who has played for the Nuggets since 2005, wasn't available for comment Saturday.
